What Waypoint collects, where it goes, and how to clear it, in plain words.
Who runs Waypoint
Waypoint is built by a student team: Elliot Ferguson, Chris O'Reilly and Ahmed Hussain. It is not a company, and no part of this site is run by one.
What Waypoint collects
Waypoint collects only what you type into the six questions. It stays in your browser's session storage until you clear it on the Your data page, or until you close your browser for the last time.
You can add your finished units by reading your academic transcript PDF on the study step. Your browser opens the PDF itself, so the file, your name, your student number and your grades are never stored and never sent to Waypoint's server or an AI model. Only the course codes you confirm are kept, as your finished units, in your browser with your other answers.
Where your answers go
Waypoint sends your answers to DeepSeek. That service writes your three career directions and your plan. This public site uses DeepSeek, a low-cost model, so the demo is free to run, and a university's own Waypoint would run an open-weights model hosted in Australia and chosen for privacy.
The job search sends only the search phrases that Waypoint chooses to a job site called Adzuna, and it never sends your answers.
Waypoint's own server runs the team's checked-in code, deployed by hand. Like most web servers, it may keep a basic record of each request, when it arrived and where it came from, to keep the service running. Nothing in Waypoint's own code reads that record, and nothing in it is used to identify a student.
What the team's own log keeps
Every model call is written to one log line: which stage of the method it was, which model answered, how many tokens it used, what it cost and how long it took. That log never holds anything a student typed. It holds counts, not words, and the team reads it back on its own System page.
Cookies and tracking
Waypoint sets no cookies and uses no tracking.
How long anything is kept
Waypoint does not keep anything on its own server. Your answers stay in your browser until you clear them.
DeepSeek's own privacy policy sets how long it keeps what it receives: read it here.
How to delete everything
The Your data page lists everything your browser holds for this visit. You can clear all of it in one step.
This is advice, not a decision
Waypoint lays out three career directions and a plan from what you type. It never decides anything for you. A change to your units or your degree is laid out as what it would look like, then handed to a course adviser. A question about visas or work rights is pointed at a person too, never answered here.
Before a university pilot
A university that wants to run Waypoint for its own students needs a privacy impact assessment and a data agreement with that university first. Neither exists yet. This is the team's own prototype.
